Tej Maini, M.D., Founder & President
Tej Maini, M.D., F.A.C.S., the founder and president of Maini Consulting Group, is a global health care authority with proven strategic and operations expertise as an international hospital CEO and board member, and medical school dean of international affairs. He has led international expansion ventures, hospital start-ups and turnarounds, and global medical education partnerships. His expertise spans the Middle East, Europe, the former Soviet bloc, Africa, India, East Asia and Australasia.
As a health care system CEO and board chairman for more than two decades in the U.S. and abroad, he won widespread recognition for care quality and patient safety transformations, financial turnarounds, metrics-driven performance initiatives, technology innovation and leadership on health policy initiatives.
A physician executive, Dr. Maini previously served as CEO and board chairman of Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, the top-rated government-owned hospital system in Abu Dhabi, under Cleveland Clinic management. Earlier, he served as president and CEO of the Worcester, Massachusetts-based Fallon Clinic multi-specialty group practice. He also has held clinical leadership roles as medical director and surgery department chair.
Bringing his international health care expertise to medical education, Dr. Maini served as Dean of International Affairs at Boston-based Tufts University School of Medicine, where he expanded the school’s global presence by partnering with emerging-market government health agencies and educational institutions to bring international medical graduates and students to Tufts’ teaching hospital affiliates for residency, fellowship, research and other training programs, generating increased revenue for the school. He also led initiatives to counsel and prepare international candidates to win U.S. placements, including CV development, interview coaching and orientation to the U.S. medical system.
As a consultant, he developed a proposal for a medical executive education program in Cairo for the World Health Organization (WHO). He also is a Visiting Scholar for health issues at the Heller School of Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, Waltham, MA.
In becoming a top-rated, board certified vascular surgeon, Dr. Maini earned his medical degree in his native India, and served his residency and surgical fellowships at three of Boston’s top academic hospitals.
Larissa J. Lucas, M.D.
Larissa Lucas, M.D., F.A.C.P., a Maini Consulting Group consultant, is a physician executive with a decade’s worth of experience as a strategic health care change management leader in both business and clinical settings. She offers deep knowledge of evidence-based medical practice innovation, and a strong track record in metrics-driven quality, performance and workflow design initiatives. Her expertise is particularly suited to projects at the intersection of new technology and health care operations.
Doug Curran is a strategic communications expert whose work as a consultant with Maini Consulting Group focuses on helping health care organizations and people more effectively present and promote themselves in the international arena. He offers expertise in web site and blog development and content creation, as well as public relations. To further the careers of medical professionals and students, he develops CVs and personal marketing material, and provides interview coaching.
A.K. Nandakumar, Ph.D.
Nanda Nandakumar, Ph.D., a Maini Consulting Group adviser, is an internationally recognized expert in health care financing, insurance models and efficiency in spending. He also currently is Professor of the Practice at Brandeis University, where he co-chairs the Ph.D. concentration in Global Health and Development, and serves as Director of the Institute for Global Health and Development at the university’s Schneider Institutes for Health Policy.
Randi S. Nichols
Randi Nichols, a Maini Consulting Group consultant, is a senior human resources leader with three decades of success steering U.S. and international health care and technology companies through transformational changes. A performance-focused organization builder and innovative human capital strategist, she has led major hospital-based group practice initiatives in patient service improvement, organizational restructuring, and staff learning and development.
Genevieve Bautista, a Maini Consulting Group adviser, is an operations and project management leader who has more than a decade of experience directing complex operations and major initiatives at two of the world’s leading health care organizations, Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic, including a key role in driving the success of an international hospital start-up in Abu Dhabi.
